Now why on earth would they ban you for -giving- something away? AN doesn't ban people without first reading the records of the 'transgression'. I cannot imagine that, if the story is as you told it, they would ban you for freely giving an item to someone. Something doesn't add up here.

That's great!

One of my favourite things to do in the game is, while helping a guild mate get through the missions, pick up a few randoms to bring along. It's amazing the amount of fun you can have just going from mission to mission with the same group over the span of, say, 6 hours. I've made a lot of good friends doing this.

It's great to see a newb's excitement when he joins a group with a level 20 helping. They act like all their Christmases have come at once. It's priceless and always makes me smile

It is sad to be unable to help, but that's the way it is.
I am not trying to flame here, but do you seriously believe it is the same thing?

I announce I'm giving something away "to the first (x profession) to open a trade window" - that way the one who finds me first is the one who gets it. When someone else tries to open a window, I do all-chat: "Sorry, [item] gone." There is no risk factor here, no one can pick my pockets or keep me from moving.

I have never ever been swamped by beggars or ne'er-do-wells after giving anything away. It's always been a positive thing. And IF I ever run into someone who doesn't understand the concept of ya-snooze-ya-lose, there again is always the Ignore list.
